Welcome to County Arms

A Heritage Haven in Ireland’s Heartlands

A warm welcome awaits at Offaly’s four-star County Arms for new and returning guests alike. Our charming 18th century Georgian House Hotel and Grounds in the beautiful heritage town of Birr, combines old world grandeur with contemporary design, so you can enjoy a truly warm and generous classic Irish country hospitality experience.

A Rich History of Hospitality

Built in 1809 as a private family home and originally named Moorpark House, this beautiful Georgian house first became a place of refuge for weary travellers to Offaly in 1962. Since then, the County Arms has been central to life and leisure in Birr, where the community gather, and visitors rest and refresh.

A new era began in 2019, when the County Arms came into new local ownership. Since then, significant refurbishment has taken place throughout, thoughtfully retaining and restoring the heritage interiors, while upgrading the living quarters to meet the expectations of the modern guest.
